A 7-Day Sri Lanka Tuk Tuk Itinerary for First-Timers

7 min read · Updated 20 June 2026

Only have a week? You can still see a remarkable slice of Sri Lanka by tuk tuk if you keep the loop tight and the driving days short. Here's a seven-day route that balances ancient history, hill scenery and a coastal finish.

Day 1: Negombo

Pick up in Negombo, 20 minutes from the airport, and ease in with a practice drive on the lagoon roads. An easy first day beats diving straight into a long haul with jet lag.

Days 2–3: Sigiriya and the Cultural Triangle

Drive to Sigiriya, climb Lion Rock early, and see the Dambulla caves. If you have the energy, day-trip to Minneriya for elephants or Polonnaruwa for ruins.

Day 4: Kandy

Head south to Kandy for the Temple of the Tooth and a lakeside evening. The drive itself is part of the appeal.

Days 5–6: Ella

Climb into the tea country to Ella. Nine Arch Bridge, Little Adam's Peak and waterfall stops fill two easy days. Ride the scenic train one way and we'll shuttle your tuk tuk.

Day 7: South coast dash or return

Either drop down to Mirissa for a final beach day and one-way drop-off, or loop back toward Negombo. A week is tight but genuinely doable at this pace.
